REDUCE SUN DAMAGE AND AGING

What Is Fraxel® Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Fraxel® Laser skin resurfacing is an aesthetic procedure that involves the application of laser technology to facilitate collagen production within the skin. The procedure is designed to reduce the effects of sun damage and aging on the skin. While virtually any area of the skin can be treated, most people choose to receive Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing on the face, chest, neck, and hands.

QUESTIONS

Fraxel® Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQ

Laser skin resurfacing combats the aging process of the skin by applying laser energy to targeted skin layers. This procedure leaves normal skin around the areas treated with the laser unaffected, the targeted areas heal much faster, and new skin cells are generated after treatment, helping wrinkles and fine lines to fade. Additionally, there are fewer side effects with Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing than other treatments.

There are many advantages to laser treatments, namely the minimal downtime and quick recovery period when compared to surgical treatments. Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing is typically performed in an outpatient setting or aesthetic facility and patients can usually return to their normal activities following the procedure.

The type of laser used depends upon the selected treatment mode. Our team of professionals uses the Fraxel® Restore laser in either the 1550 or the 1792 wavelength. In some cases, we utilize a multi-modal approach to laser resurfacing. This approach involves a combination of different laser types designed to maximize individual client results. Our team of physicians or our cosmetic consultant at Dermatology Affiliates will evaluate each patient’s specific needs and recommend the laser that produces the best treatment results.

One of the advantages of standard laser resurfacing procedures is the fast recovery time following the treatment. With Fraxel® Restore resurfacing, there is minimal post-procedure downtime. Regardless of the type of laser resurfacing undertaken, patients are encouraged to keep the affected skin area moist to promote recovery.

While sedation is not required, patients will use a topical anesthetic for about an hour prior to the procedure to eliminate any discomfort during the procedure. Most clients indicate that any discomfort from Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing is similar to mild sunburn and typically subsides within hours following the procedure.

The results of clinical studies performed with Fraxel® Restore laser treatments have shown a gradual reduction in wrinkles and sun damaged skin. Results were obtained by observing patients who received a series of three to seven treatments that were spaced one to four weeks apart.

Because each person’s needs are different, the cost of Fraxel® laser skin resurfacing varies with each person. Dermatology Affiliates often discuss the costs during an initial consultation to determine the best treatment to achieve each patient’s goals. We accept cash, check, and credit card payments towards the cost of your treatment.
